Using the Voices in Montessori Podcast as Professional Development

Megan Fremming, the Primary and Toddler Curriculum Coordinator at Montessori School of McLean, has turned the Voices in Montessori podcast into a professional development opportunity for her staff. Megan holds “podcast parties” once a month during lunchtime. She lets people know which episode will be discussed so they can listen to it ahead of time, although all staff are welcome to join the discussion even if they haven’t heard it yet.

Megan prepares a listening guide and a few discussion questions to help guide the conversation. But the best part is that the podcast provides a springboard for Montessorians to do their favorite thing: talk about Montessori philosophy!

For this month’s discussion, Megan polled the staff to see what topic they wanted to discuss most. The staff chose the episode, “Unveiling Common Montessori Myths” with Jana Herman Morgan. Megan has generously shared both the Individual Listening & Reflection Guide and her Group Discussion Questions that she created for this episode. She also printed out this article, “The House of Children,” by Dr. Montessori for her staff.

Thank you, Megan, for sharing these resources with us!
