Tamara S. Balis, our Executive Director, returned to the Johns Hopkins School of Education for the third year in a row to provide an introduction to Montessori Education to students in the Master of Science in Education International Teaching and Global Leadership (ITGL) Cohort. Her presentation includes Montessori fundamentals, such as the background of Dr. Montessori, and our role as educators in supporting the child’s development as a whole person, child development, the prepared environment, and sensitive periods for learning. Tamara also shares the brain science behind Montessori and why it works.
The Greenspring Center for Lifelong Learning’s mission is to elevate and support the critical work of Montessori teachers, leaders, and schools. Part of this work is educating and attracting prospective educators to Montessori as a career path. This year, Greenspring Montessori School is hosting eight extended learning students from the ITGL Cohort.
The Greenspring Center’s person-centered approach to learning has had a great effect on our graduate student cohort in the Johns Hopkins University International Teaching and Global Learning program as they provides our students with extended learning opportunities in Montessori. Their support of our ITGL graduate students to grow as people and as educational leaders has been transformative.
