Montessori in Bloom: Cultivating Outdoor Learning Communities

with Tamara Sheesley Balis
Monday, June 17, 2024 (Virtual via Zoom)
As part of Trillium Montessori’s Ecological Consciousness Summit

Over the past five years, Greenspring Montessori School has been actively working on addressing the #1 goal of our Strategic Plan: Inspiring an Allegiance to Nature. This presentation will briefly describe Greenspring’s journey, starting with creating a Green Schools Committee, becoming a Certified Maryland Green School, and creating Outdoor Learning Environments for every classroom with trained staff.  Tamara will walk you through the brass tacks of what it takes to implement this. What planning and budgetary considerations are needed to create outdoor learning environments? How should outdoor learning environments be set up? What kind of additional staff and staff training are needed? We hope this presentation will inspire other schools to create outdoor learning environments of their own!

Meeting the Need

Our Initiatives

During the first phase of our launch, we are creating a toolbox of resources to support educators and school leaders. These are our first initiaves.

Voices in Montessori Podcast

Our Voices in Montessori podcast shares vibrant and engaging conversations with seasoned Montessori educators and leaders, as well as other experts, to inspire and support our growing community of educators. Browse episodes on our website, find us wherever you get your podcasts, or watch on YouTube!

Mentoring Communities

When you are just starting out, you need ongoing, high-quality support. We facilitate year-long, weekly virtual coaching communities for new school leaders and Montessori Guides that provide high-quality education and practical help in real time. Enrollment for the 2024-25 school year is now open!

Workshops

Throughout the year we provide full-day workshops that dig deeply into important topics so that you leave with actionable ideas to implement in your classroom and school. We offer workshops both in-person (on our campus at Greenspring Montessori School in Baltimore, Maryland) and via Zoom.
