Our Guest: Jody Trimm

Jody Trimm joins us to talk about the importance of playfulness in the Elementary classroom. Elementary aged students are just starting to connect with their teachers and peers in new ways. By nature they are rambunctious, enthusiastic, and daring. At the same time they are thoughtful, sensitive, and caring. And boredom is what they dread the most! As their senses of humor start to develop, lean into it! We can model taking purposeful joy in the things that we do. Building a practice of playfulness fosters peer-peer connections and teacher-student relationships, and can bring life to lessons. Jody talks about using mindfulness, lesson planning, and balancing playfulness with a calm classroom.
About our Guest
Jody Trimm
Head of Elementary, Brooklyn Heights Montessori School
Jody began working at Metropolitan Montessori School in 2010, after 5 years of ‘traditional’ teaching. She taught briefly at the 3-6 level and mainly at the 6-9 levels before becoming Elementary Division Head in 2017. This fall she begins her tenure at Brooklyn Heights Montessori School as the Head of Elementary.
Jody is an instructor and field consultant at Montessori Elementary Teacher Training Collaborative in Lexington, MA and an elementary faculty member of the West Side Montessori School Teacher Education Program in New York City where she helped develop the Lower Elementary teacher training course.
Jody holds a BS in Education and M.Ed. She holds 6-9 (CMTE/NY) and 9-12 (METTC) Montessori credentials.
Jody lives in New York City with her husband and many plants. She is very slowly learning Hindi.
